The Labour Market
The Democracy of the Danes introduces us to the founding principles of a democratic society. We see how the referendum works and are explained by Danes why they find it important to vote. Behind the walls of Christiansborg we experience the democracy at work. We also hear why the press finds it important to maintain the freedom of speech, and we have a look inside a housing co-operative to see how democracy is being carried out among civilians.
The film broadly embraces the democracy of the Danes from the governmental level to the practise of democracy in the everyday life of families. It is not enough just to carry out public referendums, democracy is also about raising one’s children for a democratic way of mind. It is about being critical, engaged, responsible and speak out one’s opinion..
