The Bird that could tell Fortunes
Sadjad is 10 years old and lives with his mother, his sisters and brother in Isfahan, a city in Iran. Every day after school Sadjad and his friends meet at the square in front of the largest Mosque in the city. To all the people passing by, they try to sell fortunes, written by the known poet Hafez.
Behind the Mountains
Reyhane and Farzane are two six-year-old girls. They are cousins and best friends. They live in an Afghan refugee camp in Eastern Iran, near the border to Afghanistan. Through the barbed wire fence, which surrounds the camp, they can see the huge mountains, which make up a natural frontier between the two countries. In the documentary Behind the Mountains we follow the two girls in the summer up to their first day of school.
When mom and dad are clowns
A clown is the most important figure in a circus. In the ring clowns are always cheerful and make the rest of us laugh. But to achieve a big laugh, hard and intense work is required. In this documentary we follow the eleven-year-old boy Victor. Victor is Russian and has spent his whole life in and with the circus, where he performs as a clown with his mum and dad. For three months of the year he goes to school in Moscow. For the remaining nine months he is a circus clown, travelling all over Europe. We accompany him and his family on tour in Germany as he tells us about his life and thoughts.
Kids in Action
Kids in Action is about speedy kids in the age of 3 to 9 years who drive micro speedway. The movie paints a picture of the world of micro speedway by focusing on the children and their hobby.
Like Birds in a Cage
Like Birds in a Cage is an outstanding documentary for children about a refugee camp in Croatia, experienced by two children. Ivana and Dalibor are the youngest residents of a refugee camp in former Yugoslavia.
War is not for Children
The documentary War is not for Children is a follow-up on Like Birds in a Cage, in which we meet the refugee boy Dalibor. Two years have passed, the war is over and we meet Dalibor and his sister Daliborka. The now 12-year-old Dalibor and his sister are living at a home for war children in a small town in the ‘idyllic’ mountains of Bosnia where no one welcomes Bosnian/Serb children.
Free as a Bird
The documentary Free as a Bird continues the story of Like Birds in a Cage, in which we meet the 9-year-old orphaned girl, Ivana. The now fifteen-year-old Ivana, who lost almost her entire family during the war in Bosnia, except for her brother and has now been granted asylum in the United Kingdom with her brother and the family they met at a refugee camp in Croatia.
The Art of Survival
The documentary The Art of Survival is the story about the Iranian boy, Hamid. Hamid was 11 years old when he fled alone from the Iran/Iraq war. To be a refugee, he had to learn the art of survival. Hamid is one of the 200 children who arrive in Denmark each year as unaccompanied refugees.
Homulus Spectaculus
The male. Homulus Spectaculus is a documentary about adults. Who are they, these tall strange people with deep voices? What do the do in the daytime? – and at night? What is this odd thing they call ‘work’? Why do they have so many rules about what to eat, to do and get done?
When We Were Tigers
The two little girls, Chloe and Thea are searching for adventure in India. They visit an Indian grandfather who teaches them how to wash clothes the Indian way. They go by train through Southindia and they live on a teeplantation in the mountains. A warm and poetic film about two sisters’ meeting an exotic culture.
Train Trip in India
Three-year old Chloe is travelling by train in India with her one-year old sister Thea. It's hot and everyone in the train is asleep. Chloe tries waking the Indians with her train whistle; but only when the train stops at a station do the passengers com to life. Chloe and Thea make friends with everyone. A poetic and sensitive description of a train journey and meeting with the exotic.
Ditching Dummies
»Ditching Dummies« is a charming little documentary for children and grown-ups about the force of habit and trying to break it. Agnes and Selma are sisters; from them we hear about overcoming their bad habit, the thoughts that preceded the decision, the difficult weaning phase - the withdrawal symptoms, and finally liberation from the scourge of addiction. A film about ditching dummies!
