In the beginning of the 20th Century Polish farm workers came to Denmark as seasonal workers to work in the sugar beet industry. A large part of them arrived during the First World War.
Julia was one of them. When we meet her in 1991, Julia is 93-years-old. Julia was born in the Ukraine, which at that time was a part of Poland. At the age of 13, she came to a Danish farm on the islands of Lolland/Falster. She never learned to speak good Danish, and after eighty years of hard labour, she feels that she is being looked after like a queen at the old people's home in a tiny little village called Stokkemarke. The documentary is a live document of one of the last witnesses from the Polish seasonal workers in the Danish sugar industry.
