A poetic documentary about the unusual lives of two women, who both live on the river Seine in
Paris. Kirsten was the Danish ambassador's wife. When her husband divorced her, she decided to
change her way of living completely. She moved on a houseboat and worked with drug addicts.
The second woman, Fernande, has lived on the river Seine all her life, and through the years has
become an experienced veteran of the river. Despite their completely different backgrounds, life
on the river has brought Kirsten and Fernande together in a close, life-affirming friendship.
